Residents Reminded Of Drvieway Approval Requirements

Griffith City Council reminds all residents that they must obtain Council consent before undertaking any work associated with driveways within the road reserve, as required under Section 138 of the Roads Act 1993. The road reserve is the entire space from one boundary to the other boundary across the road.

Approval is required for new driveways and modifications to existing driveways to ensure compliance with Australian Standards and Council specifications, while protecting the safety of all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, during and after construction. This approval must be obtained prior to any works commencing on the road reserve.

Undertaking work within the road reserve without proper approval may pose a public liability or safety risk and could result in the removal of any unauthorised works.

A Driveway Application must be submitted and approved by Council before any work is commenced. Section 138 applications must be lodged through the NSW Planning Portal. For guidance on how to lodge an application, please visit: https://www.griffith.nsw.gov.au/constructing-your-driveway

All works must adhere to Council's Driveway Specifications and Engineering Guidelines – Subdivision and Development Standards. These documents are all available for free on Council's website.

Fees for driveway applications are assessed based on the scope of the proposed works and in accordance with Council's Revenue Policy.

To learn more about the driveway application process, applicable fees or to obtain a quote, residents are encouraged to contact Council on 1300 176 077.
