Residents Urged to Shape New Community Plan

Orange Council

As Orange City Council settles into its new term, it's time for us determine the community's priorities for our city for the next four years.

YOUR COMMUNITY. YOUR PLAN: The community's views are the foundations of the CSP and will guide Orange City Council over the next four years.

♦ Residents are being encouraged to share their ideas and aspirations for Orange to create the Council's Community Strategic Plan.

♦ A CSP is developed after every local government election to guide the Council during the next term.

♦ During November and December, Orange City Council will conduct extensive consultation with the community.

Residents are being encouraged to share their ideas and aspirations for Orange to create the Council's Community Strategic Plan (CSP).

A CSP is developed after every local government election to guide the Council during the next term. It is our highest-level plan and translates the community's desired outcomes for the city into key goals.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said the theme for the new CSP is 'Your Community. Your Plan.'

"The community's input is vital in forming this plan. It's the community's plan," Cr Mileto said.

"That's why we want as many people as possible to share their thoughts and views with us. They are the foundations of the CSP and will guide Orange City Council over the next four years."

Community consultation conducted in 2022 for the last CSP found Orange residents wanted more recreational opportunities for young people, infrastructure for our growing community, affordable housing, environmental sustainability and a vibrant community, which led to:

  • More new playgrounds, an indoor winter playground and a $2.4 million upgrade of the Orange Adventure Playground.
  • $60 million sports precinct underway
  • Agreements signed to develop the Landcom residential suburb, which includes affordable housing
  • The adoption of the Urban Forest Strategy
  • Renewable energy initiatives
  • Clergate Road, Huntley Road and Beasley Road upgrades
  • Stage 4 of the Southern Feeder Road
  • Construction of the Orange Regional Conservatorium and Planetarium
  • Public art programs

During November and December, Orange City Council will conduct extensive consultation with the community and locals have the chance to share their thoughts, concerns, aspirations and ideas with us.

Online, people can visit YourSay Orange at https://yoursay.orange.nsw.gov.au/ to share their ideas and like other people's ideas, place pins on a map to show locations that matter and complete a survey considering the following themes:

  1. What makes our community a great place to live?
  2. What do you think the main challenges facing our community are?
  3. What have you seen in another town or city that you think would work well here?
  4. What is the one thing you would like to see achieved in the next 10 years?
  5. What services or projects do you think should be prioritised?

Four public community forums will be held at Orange Civic Centre for residents to have their say in-person on:

  • Tuesday 3 December 2024, 1-2:30pm or 6-7:30pm
  • Thursday 5 December 2024, 10-11:30am or 6-7:30pm

Pop-up stalls will also be held around the city at:

  • Orange Region Farmers Market - Saturday 9 November 8:30am – 12pm, Orange Showground
  • Touch Football - Wednesday 20 November 2024, 5pm-7pm, Waratah Sportsground
  • Orange City Centre - Thursday 28 November 2024, 9am-12pm

"Council acknowledges that Orange is a widely diverse local government area and is committed to ensuring everyone has an opportunity to contribute to shaping the CSP," Cr Mileto said.

Community consultation will end on Monday 6 January and a draft engagement report will be presented back to the community, who will have the opportunity to provide further feedback for two weeks before the draft CSP is produced.

The draft CSP will be presented to an Orange City Council meeting in April, when it will be placed on display for community comment for 40 days.

The CSP will be adopted in June.
