When the Orange Adventure Playground was built in 2002, organisers gave local residents the opportunity to buy commemorative personalised fence pickets to raise funds to purchase materials.
Now, as contractors prepare to dismantle the structure to make way for a new playground, some residents have shown an interest in collecting their pickets and taking them home.
Orange City Council Sport and Recreation Policy Committee Chair Tammy Greenhalgh said many people were proud of their contribution to the construction of the playground.

"This was a community facility in every way and many service organisations and community members were involved in making it a reality," Cr Greenhalgh said.
"I encourage anyone who wants to keep their special fence picket to take this opportunity to claim it. We can't reuse all of them in the new playground and after years of exposure to the elements some of the timber is in poor shape."
For the next 9 days, until the playground closes to the public at dusk on Sunday 2 June, residents are being asked to head to the Adventure Playground to mark the pickets they would like to take home so when the contractor begins dismantling the old playground they will separate these from the ones to be reused or disposed of. Best efforts will be made not to damage the pickets as they are being removed.
