The following statement is in response to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights' final report of its inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities.
Attributable to Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Mr Luke Sheehy:
"There's no doubt this is a confronting time for Jewish people and Australians more broadly.
"We're better than this as a nation.
"No one should be treated differently because of their ethnicity - not on campus, not in our communities, not in our country, nowhere.
"As a sector we are committed to addressing this scourge.
"We're working closely and regularly with government and community groups and a lot of this work aligns with the nature of what's been recommended to government.
"The committee has done an important job and now we need to focus on action, which is what we're doing."
