In NSW cats and dogs must be microchipped and registered on the NSW Government's Pet Registry website.
If your pet is registered and your details are up to date, it can be safely returned if it gets lost.
You can get your dog or cat microchipped at your local vet.
Pet owners are also responsible for their animal's actions and must consider the impact their dog or cat may have on others in the community.
