Retail Spending Posts Consecutive Rise In November

Tasmanian Government

Data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows monthly retail trade in Tasmania has again hit a record high, reaching $731.6 million for November 2024.

Treasurer Guy Barnett said that this continued growth in Tasmania's retail sector is welcome news leading into the new year.

"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is focussed on ensuring Tasmania's economy remains resilient and confident," the Treasurer said.

"This latest retail trade data has confirmed that consumers are confident which in turn allows for our businesses to be confident – a win for all Tasmanians.

"On an annual basis, Tasmania's retail trade is a massive 64 per cent higher than it was for the 12 months prior to us coming to Government in 2014, and everyday Tasmanians are the winners.

"Our Tasmanian economy has increased to a record $40.6 billion and over the past 10 years under our Government. It has grown by $8.5 billion, that's 26.3 per cent.

"Our unemployment rate remains at historically low levels, we have the highest wage growth in the nation, and we have created 45,000 more jobs since we came to Government.

"This is a welcome start to 2025 as we take on the year re-energised to continue building our economy and delivering better outcomes for all Tasmanians."
