Revised Tree Management Policy now on public exhibition

Georges River Council

Georges River Council's revised Tree Management Policy is on exhibition until 1 March 2024.

At its meeting on 27 November 2023, Council resolved to publicly exhibit the draft revised policy, an amendment to the Georges River Council 2023/24 Schedule of Fees and Charges and draft Amendment No.6 to the Georges River Development Control Plan (GRDCP) 2021.

The revised Tree Management Policy has been drafted with a renewed focus on the enhancement and management of trees to facilitate the delivery of Council's adopted 40 per cent urban canopy target.

The Policy recognises the significance of both public and private trees, as the outlined canopy target cannot be reached by increasing canopy cover on public land alone.

It also contains extensive reorganisation of its structure to clearly outline the management of private trees from public trees, to increase user-friendliness especially for the general community.

Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir welcomed the changes.

"This is a fantastic step in the right direction for Council to prioritise the delivery of its canopy target.

"I encourage our community to have their say on the revised Policy. We value the opinions of our community and I look forward to hearing from our community on the matter," added the Mayor.

Members of the community are invited to provide feedback on the revised Tree Management Policy, amendment to the Georges River Council 2023/24 Schedule of Fees and Charges and draft Amendment No.6 to the GRDCP 2021 by 1 March 2024 5.00pm.
