Revive Old Boots, Boost Young Athletes' Dreams

Greater Shepparton City Council's Activities in the Park program is encouraging the community to donate pre-loved soccer, AFL and rugby boots to support young players across the region.

In partnership with the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association and Kick It Forward, Council is collecting clean, good-quality boots now until Wednesday 23 April at the Shepparton Sports Stadium or Aquamoves, between 10am and 4pm daily.

Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, said the initiative helps break down financial barriers for families while promoting sustainability.

"Boots are often outgrown before they are worn out. This program is about giving those boots a second chance, reducing waste and supporting families in our community," he said.

The donated boots will then be made available at a Boot Swap event on Saturday 26 April 2025 from 8am to 4pm at the McEwen Reserve Soccer Fields in Shepparton. Families can come along, swap outgrown boots for another pair or pick up a pair at no cost.

Council's Director Community, Louise Mitchell, said the event helps make sport more accessible for local families.

"Every child deserves the chance to play sport. This initiative helps reduce the financial pressure for families while encouraging upcycling and inclusion," she said.

Stock at the Boot Swap event will be limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Families are encouraged to arrive early to increase their chances of finding the right size.

Any leftover boots will be donated to more local families in need after the event.
