The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) is advising residents to not enter any drains, inundated parks, rivers or beaches as water may be contaminated.
Council will close beaches at The Strand, including the Rockpool, Pallarenda and Five Mile Beach. The Ross River remains closed for recreational use.
Do not enter floodwaters. Do not swim in rivers and beaches. You can become unwell.
Townsville Public Health Unit Director Dr Steven Donohue said residents should not enter floodwaters.
"Even a little bit of flooding has important safety and health risks associated. Floodwater is incredibly contaminated with bacteria and can very easily cause severe hygiene problems," he said.
"Do not let kids play in floodwaters. Remember, even a little bit of flooding can be dangerous."
