Road And Footpath Assessments Being Undertaken

Road and Footpath Surveying

City of Ryde is engaging Infrastructure Management Group, our asset inspection contractor, to undertake a condition assessment and obtain detailed video imaging of our 541km network of footpaths and 320km network of sealed roads.

The information gained from this exercise will ensure accurate management of these important community assets, enabling effective maintenance and renewal strategies to improve connectivity, mobility and safety.

Assessment vehicles and equipment

You may observe camera equipped inspection vehicles travelling on local roads or public footways around your work, residences, or other locations within the area during this period.

These assessment vehicles are driven by experienced operators travelling at normal traffic speeds on the roads and travelling at a brisk walking pace on footpaths. Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while completing laser measurement and video recording activities of roads and access ways, and the assessment and video recording activities of footpaths, cycle ways, and shared access ways.

All cameras are focused on the footpath, road or kerb surface structure with some limited viewing of areas directly adjacent. No image recordings of commercial, residential, private property or structures will be undertaken.

Vehicles are clearly identifiable. For roads assessment, the vehicles will operates seamlessly within the normal surrounding traffic patterns. When following these vehicles, please keep a full car length behind to provide the rear cameras with a clear view of the road surface for the road surveying and for the footpath. For footpaths assessment, operators will be vigilant and cooperate with the pedestrian public.

Times and dates of operation

The footpath survey vehicles will be operating each day from around 8.00am to 4.30pm. It is estimated to take around 3 – 4 weeks, beginning 29 May and being completed by the end of June.

The road survey vehicles are scheduled to begin data collection around 8 July and will take around 2 weeks to complete.

We thank you for your assistance during this period of work and look forward to providing the benefits of this exercise.
