Road Repairs Prioritised After Flash Flooding

Rockhampton Regional Council is prioritising road repairs across the Region following yesterday's rain event.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has reported that more than 160mm fell across the Region since Monday, causing a significant impact to the region's drainage systems and several roads to become inundated and blocked to motorists.

Council crews are responding swiftly and are currently assessing and repairing damage to ensure the safety of residents.

Mayor Tony Williams said many areas across the region had seen road closures, localised flooding, and road damage with areas around Fairy Bower, Mt Morgan & Parkhurst seeing the most impact.

"We have seen a significant rain event over the past 30 hours which has caused widespread impact to our road and drainage network," Mayor Williams said.

"Council is currently prioritising work as we undertake the assessment process with crews performing urgent repairs, focusing on potholes and removing debris to ensure essential routes are open and safe.

"There are more than 2090 km of roads across the Region, so there is a huge task ahead of us with the safety of our residents and road reliability a top priority."

Mayor Williams emphasised the importance of long-term solutions for the Region's infrastructure network during severe weather events.

"Council is committed to improving our infrastructure network and will continue explore and adopt initiatives that improve our resilience and capacity to respond to future weather events," Mayor Williams said.

"We understand the inconvenience these weather events can cause, and we appreciate the community's patience as we work to resolve these issues as soon as possible."

Residents are encouraged to report any road damage or hazards through Council's website or via Customer Service on 49329000.
