Kingston Police conducted high visibility patrols across remote areas on Bruny Island over the Easter long weekend in response to general traffic offending and hooning activity on beach reserves.
Police responded to a number of 4WD vehicles engaging in dangerous driving behaviour on Cloudy Bay Beach which resulted in one of the 4WD vehicles rolling. Whilst no injuries were reported, significant damage was caused to the vehicle.
This dangerous driving behaviour clearly places the occupants of the vehicle, bystanders and the environment at risk. The remoteness of the area creates further risks to emergency responders and people who may be injured that require time critical care.
Police operations across Bruny Island resulted in:
• A 19-year-old male from Margate proceeded against by summons for hooning and environmental offences on Cloudy Bay Beach
• A 22-year-old male from Cradoc proceeded against by summons for hooning and environmental offences on Cloudy Bay Beach
• 3 x Defect Notices
• 10 x Speeding Infringement Notices
• 1 x Youth Caution Notice issued for using a controlled plant
• 2 x Liquor Infringement Notices
Motorists are reminded that Cloudy Bay Beach is clearly signed allowing vehicles only to drive at low tide, in the wet sand and for the purpose of accessing campgrounds and launching boats at Cloudy Corner.
