Two men who allegedly robbed a service station and assaulted an employee at Giru have been arrested by police after they crashed their car attempting to escape.

The men then fled the scene in their vehicle.
Police were notified a short time later that the car had been sighted on the Bruce Highway at Horseshoe Bay.
Officers attended the scene and located a Ford Falcon ute that had crashed near the Haughton Bridge with attempts made to set it alight.
A further search of the area led to the discovery of two men hiding in a culvert next to the highway who were immediately taken into custody.
An 18-year-old Aitkenvale man and 20-year-old Hermit Park man have been charged with armed robbery in company used personal violence and are due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow (July 29).
