Campaspe Shire Council is conducting an anonymous survey of people from Rochester and surrounds, to establish the current status of housing in the area.
Data and information gathered through the survey will inform future advocacy activities and local initiatives to address residents' needs and challenges around housing, and support the vibrancy and long-term prosperity of Rochester.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Rob Amos said that the two-year anniversary of the worst flood in living memory next month was an important milestone to take stock of where things are at with regard to housing in Rochester.
"Much progress has been made during the past two years in rebuilding people's lives and properties, testament to the dedication, resilience and community spirit of the people of Rochester," Cr Amos said.
"However, we are aware than many people from Rochester are still not in their own home.
"Community feedback indicates many people are still navigating a range of challenges preventing them from moving back into their primary place of residence prior to the flood," he said.
"Getting people back in their own home is a key priority of the Campaspe Municipal Recovery Plan.
"That's why it's important we get an accurate picture of the current needs and challenges residents are facing so Council and the community recovery committees can advocate and take action on their behalf."
Householders in the Rochester locality will receive the survey, along with the Spring edition of the Rochester Recovery Update newsletter, via Australia Post in mid-September.
"I encourage everyone in Rochester and surrounds to complete the survey and return it to Council by Friday, 11 October," Cr Amos said.
"It's completely anonymous and only one survey per household is needed."
