This week Council kicked off its Teacher Professional Development (PD) Expo series for the year, showcasing the many educational resources and curriculum-linked programs available to teachers across the region.
Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon said the Teacher PD Expo is held twice a year and is an invaluable platform for educators to engage directly with teams from across Council including Waste & Recycling, Local Laws, Fitzroy River Water, Environmental Sustainability, Rockhampton Museum of Art and more.
"These events are a fantastic opportunity for local educators to explore the wide range of free educational resources and programs offered by Council, as well as learn about funding opportunities like Council's Community Assistance Program that can support teaching initiatives," Mr Pardon said.
"Some of Council's longstanding successful programs include Waste and Recycling's Recycling Hero School Program, which has 20 schools from across the region already enrolled.
"This year's first Teacher PD Expo was hosted by Fitzroy River Water (FRW), where participating teachers enjoyed an educational tour of the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant and acquired firsthand insights into the world of water treatment.
"FRW currently offer tours of the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant and guest presentation bookings to schools and community groups, which is an extremely unique learning opportunity."
CEO Evan Pardon said these events provide a platform for educators to network with fellow teachers, exchange ideas, and plan their educational activities for 2024.
"Teachers can explore different venue options for on-site programs and even book Council guest speakers to visit their classrooms, enhancing the educational experience for students," Mr Pardon said.
