Rockliff's Big Backflip on Spirits Day Sailings

Tas Labor

Labor stands for jobs and we have been regularly offering constructive ideas throughout this Spirits fiasco. We are pleased Jeremy Rockliff has finally ended his opposition to adding extra day sailings on the new Spirits.

When Labor announced our plan to double day sailings in August, the Liberals tried to punish the local business owner who supported the announcement.

A fortnight ago in Parliament, the Premier called the plan "prattle", "point-scoring" and "negativity".

Yesterday, his Transport Minister Eric Abetz said the Spirits would only add more day sailings when there was demand - that is, they wouldn't be changing their current policy.

Today, the Premier has completely backflipped and promised that additional sailings will be online and available to book within the next 48 hours.

Given all the stuff-ups so far, and the false promises that have been made to tourism operators, we'll be watching very closely to ensure the Premier actually keeps his promise.
