Rockliff's Hydro Privatisation Plans Questioned

Tas Labor

Jeremy Rockliff needs to come clean on whether parts of Hydro are on his privatisation hit list.

It has been revealed there are 16 public assets Premier Rockliff is considering selling off, and he has refused to come clean on what they are.

There are only 14 GBEs, including Hydro. What else is on the list?

Labor is extremely concerned the Liberals are planning to sell off parts of Hydro, such as Momentum Energy and Entura. This would be a big mistake and bad for Tasmania.

Momentum Energy has made nearly $200 million in profit for Hydro over the past 10 years, profit that comes solely from people and businesses on the mainland.

That money helps keep power bills down for Tasmanians and provides vital money for schools and hospitals, without costing Tasmanians a cent.

Likewise, Entura earns important revenue by exporting to other countries the skills and knowledge Tasmanians have built up over 100 years of owning the Hydro.

Again, that money helps keep energy affordable for Tasmanians and provides vital funds to the state.

If Premier Rockliff is planning to carve up and sell the Hydro, he needs to be honest about it and release his full hit list.
