Construction of a temporary single-lane bridge has commenced at Cowbed Bridge on Rocky Plain Road, Berridale, as part of Council's comprehensive bridge renewal program. The temporary structure will maintain essential access for residents and motorists during upcoming major upgrades to Cowbed Bridge.
The 24-metre temporary bridge will sit alongside the existing Cowbed Bridge, located approximately 675 metres west of the intersection of Rocky Plain Road and Middlingbank Road.
This interim structure will have a 15-tonne load capacity and is scheduled to open to traffic by Christmas Day, Wednesday 25 December 2024, allowing bridge upgrades to get underway without the need for a full road closure.
Motorists are advised that traffic conditions will change once installation of the temporary bridge is complete. Heavy vehicles exceeding the 15-tonne load limit will need to use alternative routes, which will be clearly signposted.
Supported by the NSW Government, the Cowbed Bridge upgrade project is part of Council's broader infrastructure improvement strategy to enhance the region's transport network.
Traffic management will be in place during the upcoming installation and bridge upgrade works, with minor delays for motorists expected. Road-users should factor additional travel time into their journeys and follow all posted signage and traffic controller directions.
Weather conditions may affect dates and durations provided for these works. Council will provide updates if any significant changes to the schedule are required.
