Work on a $15 million expansion of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility in Queensland's Maranoa Region has commenced, after leading energy infrastructure company, Jemena, awarded Queensland-based Wasco Australia (a member of Wasco Energy Group) a construction contract for the project.
Jemena's Executive General Manager of Gas Markets, Antoon Boey, said Wasco Australia has a proven track record in completing complex projects at gas processing facilities across the region and was well suited to partner with Jemena on the expansion project.
"Together with our client and developer of the Roma North gas field, Senex Energy, we're excited to partner with Wasco Australia to deliver the next stage of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility. The expansion will enable us to deliver increased flows from Senex's Roma North gas field to market," said Mr Boey.
"As a result of this project, we anticipate the capacity of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility will increase by about 50 per cent, with Jemena set to transport gas from the facility on behalf of Senex to their customer GLNG.
"Currently the processing facility is capable of delivering 16TJs of gas per day, which we expect to increase to 24TJs of gas per day at the completion of this project," said Mr Boey.
Mr Boey said the project will see Jemena spend over $500,000 on goods and services such as accommodation, meals, and transport which will be provided by local businesses from the Maranoa Region.
"This project will take between three to four months to complete, and we expect it will create around 40 jobs over its lifetime.
"Where possible we will be using local suppliers for goods and services, while also using local businesses to provide things like transport, accommodation, trades and other services."
Wasco Australia's Managing Director, Mel Whyte said: "We're excited to be working on the expansion of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility, which comes after we were appointed by Senex Energy to construct the compressor facility and an export pipeline in 2019. It is fantastic to see Jemena continuing to award contracts like this to local businesses."
Jemena acquired the Roma North Processing Facility from Senex Energy (ASX: SXY) for $50 million in June 2019. That transaction saw Jemena come to own and operate the processing facility and an associated pipeline, reflecting the company's growing ambitions in the Surat and Bowen Basins.
Jemena already owns substantial gas assets in the area including the Atlas Gas Pipeline, the Darling Downs Pipeline Network, and the Queensland Gas Pipeline.
Additional gas is expected to flow as part of the Roma North expansion in September.
