Townsville City Council is advising residents to be aware of Council services impacted by weather as rainfall and localised flooding persists across the Townsville LGA.
Impacted services include:
- Ross River – closed to sport and recreation users until further notice due to heavy rainfall.
- Riverway Movie Night cancelled
- The Animal Care and Adoption Centre – closed until further notice
- Citizenship Ceremony – postponed
- Rubbish collection – resumed for general waste bins, recycling collections resuming on Friday
- Sewerage systems are at capacity
- Rockpool closed
- The Strand, including the Rockpool, Pallarenda, Rowes Bay and Five Mile Beach – closed until further notice
- Castle Hill vehicle and pedestrian access closed
- Mobile library visit cancelled
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said residents should take shorter showers, delay washing clothes and only flush their toilets when necessary to ease pressure on the sewerage system.
"We're asking residents to go easy on their water use at home to ease pressure on the sewerage systems, which are at capacity with rainwater today," Cr Greaney said.
"Waste collection will be delayed, but please be assured we will continue to provide updates on what this means for all residents."
Cr Greaney said there were psychosocial support services available for residents.
"We've been through a lot of heavy rain in the past couple of months, and this can have effects on our community," Cr Greaney said.
"If you are experiencing emotional stress and you need support, you can reach out to Lifeline, Beyond Blue or the Community Recovery Hotline.
"Remember to stay connected with your friends, family and neighbours. You don't have to go it alone."
