Rottnest Island Extends Late-Night Ferry Service

  • Late-night Rottnest Island ferry service commencing Thursday, 14 November
  • Last ferry at 9pm will depart between Thursday and Sunday
  • Allows visitors to stay longer and explore Rottnest Island during warmer months

Visitors to Rottnest Island will be able to enjoy the popular holiday destination for longer this summer, with a late-night ferry service starting from Thursday, 14 November.

The last ferry will depart the island at 9pm from Thursday to Sunday between November and January, and then operate Friday to Sunday between February and April 2025.

It means day visitors will be able to experience the island after dark and enjoy the sunset views from some of Western Australia's most iconic beaches or have dinner at the array of restaurants and eateries before returning to Perth.

Special deals for food and beverages from fine dining to casual family meals will also be on offer to coincide with the late-night ferry service.

It comes as the island prepares for another busy summer period, off the back of a record-breaking 2023-24 with more than 823,000 visitors by ferry.

That equates to an increase of almost 100,000 people, or nearly 13 per cent, on the previous financial year, and is almost double the annual visitation of 420,000 that was recorded under the previous Liberal-National Government in 2016-17.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We know our beloved Rottnest Island becomes a hive of activity during summer.

"As we approach the warmer months and the days become longer, it makes sense to provide these late-night ferries, so daytrippers get to experience the incredible island sunsets or enjoy dinner somewhere before heading back to Perth.

"The later ferry will also benefit island businesses, giving them the option to increase their services and roster on more staff to support the busier summer period."
