- Expressions of interest now open for businesses to operate on Rottnest Island
- Focus on new recreational experiences and enhancing Aboriginal cultural tourism
- More than 823,000 visitors travelled to Rottnest Island by ferry during 2023-24
In readiness for a busy summer holiday season, expressions of interest are now open to established operators to bring new and innovative businesses to Rottnest Island.
Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said investment into island infrastructure and increased accommodation options were driving the island's economy with high visitation from local, interstate and international visitors and continuing the island's status as one of Western Australia's premier holiday destinations.
Last year, new businesses offered visitors cruises on a traditional pearl lugger boat, handcrafted ice cream, guided cycling tours, yoga and wellness, beach safety education and an app for hiking trails.
The 2025 Recreational EOI application outlines two key categories:
- recreational activities and experiences; and
- Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences.
Further information on the EOI process is available at ria.wa.gov.au .
Applications close at 4pm Australian Western Standard Time, 29 April 2025.
As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:
"Rottnest Island has seen another successful summer holiday period, with visitors experiencing new offerings such as cruises, yoga and guided tours.
"Tourism operators and businesses are integral to the visitor economy and generate job opportunities, and we're looking for experienced business operators to set up shop on this beautiful island.
"The unique natural environment of Rottnest Island provides a great opportunity for nature-based tourism operators to showcase the many wonders of the island.
"The 2025 Recreational EOI is an opportunity for new businesses to enhance the range of recreational, tourism, hospitality and retail offerings already on the island."
