Local sporting groups and talented individuals now have the opportunity to apply for grants, as Round 2 of the Parkes Shire Sports Grants is open until 30 September 2024.

In March this year, Parkes Shire Council and Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations announced a new three-year, $120,000 partnership agreement. This collaboration will provide $60,000 ($30,000 from each partner) annually for the Sports Grant Program, which assists sporting clubs and organisations with programs, equipment, facilities, and development opportunities.

This year, the partnership also launched the Rising Star Grant Program, which offers $10,000 ($5,000 from each partner) annually to recognise and assist outstanding young athletes throughout the Parkes Shire. Both the Sports Grant Program and the Rising Star Grant Program are divided into two rounds each year, with Round 1 closing at the end of March and Round 2 closing at the end of September.

Acting General Manager of Parkes Shire Council, Andrew Francis, outlined the value of the partnership.

"The continued partnership between Parkes Shire Council and Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations underscores our commitment to supporting local sports and nurturing young talent. These grant programs are not just about funding; they are about empowering our community, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and helping our athletes achieve their full potential," Mr Francis said.

Northparkes Operations General Manager Rob Cunningham said:

"We're incredibly proud to be part of the Sports Grants and Rising Star Programs. Sports play a vital role in life, fostering essential skills and creating lifelong friendships through active participation."

The Sports Grant Program has been running since 2013 and has supported many sporting projects across the Shire. The new Rising Star Grant Program will complement the existing program by providing financial assistance to individual sportspersons of the Parkes Shire, particularly those at junior level, who demonstrate the need for such assistance to develop their sporting career.

Parkes Sports Council will continue to administer the grant program, ensuring that the grants are directed towards projects that will deliver the most benefit to the community.

The Sports Grant Round 2 has a total pool of $37,548 available, while the Rising Star Grant has $5,000 available for distribution. Applications for Round 2 is closing on 30 September 2024.
