Narrandera Shire Council is excited to announce round five of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund initiative is now open.
Narrandera Shire has been allocated $1,315,597 this round to build or improve existing and new infrastructure that will benefit our community. Of this Council is allocated $909,597 while the community are encouraged to considered and make submissions for projects and utilise the remaining $406,000.
The proposed Council lead projects directly correlate to our recently developed Community Strategic Plan, as identified by the community, and include:
- An upgrade of the facilities at the Narrandera Water Tower precinct including an amenities block, barbeque area and play equipment valued at $660,000.
- The renewal of security camera systems in the central business district and popular public areas including East Street, Marie Bashir Park, together with solar powered security cameras at the Water Tower precinct and Skywalk. This project is anticipated to be valued at $249,597.
Previously several community facilities have benefited from the Stronger Country Communities funding. These include extensive works at Marie Bashir Park - new fencing, a running track, basket-ball pit, solar lighting along the footpath, barbeque shelters and a contribution towards the new skatepark. Hankinson Park was completed rejuvenated.
Narrandera Sportsground's new Clubhouse was partly funded by this program in the amount of $100,000 and Henry Mathieson Oval had perimeter fencing installed.
The popular Youth Food Trailer often seen at community events was also funded through the SCCF. As was Bidgee Boxing's Community Hub at the Showground. The Parkside Cottage Museum also benefited, receiving new display cases, some internal painting and CCTV security.
In Barellan a footpath was formed connecting the Barellan Aged Care Units and the Ex-Serviceman's Club. The tennis courts were all re-surfaced plus new lighting and fencing around the facility. All Community Halls had projects undertaken including - Barellan - toilet upgrade, Binya - path, power & water to shed, Kamarah - external maintenance and Sandigo - external painting.
In Grong Grong the Commemorative Hall received upgrades including a disabled access ramp, upgrade front stairs, upgrade men's toilets and air-conditioning for the main hall and the Earth Park stage two was carried out.
