Council wishes to provide an update on the soft opening events that were scheduled to take place from late October, including the 2024 Leeton Eisteddfod, for the purpose of testing the new equipment and technology at the Roxy Community Theatre.

Regrettably, construction has been delayed mainly due to electricity connection works by external authorities. This has had a flow-on effect on other preparations required for the soft opening.

As a result, a number of scheduled performances in late October / November are now unable to proceed with the 2024 Leeton Eisteddfod committee making the difficult decision yesterday to cancel this year's event which was planned for 26, 27 & 28 October 2024. The Eisteddfod committee has informed all competitors via email and has begun the process of refunding registrations.

Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Kidd said the Roxy Project Office as well as our local trades have put in enormous time, effort and energy over the last few weeks, including weekends, to ensure the availability of the venue for the series of soft opening events but unfortunately the goal completion dates could not be achieved.

"To ensure the safety of patrons and to allow for construction to progress without disruptions, Council had to advise the community groups involved in the "Community First" events, including the Eisteddfod committee, of the current circumstances. The impacted groups and performers are understandably disappointed, and Council apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"We are nearing the finish line and we have all hands on deck to ensure the Stage 1 build of this intergenerational community asset is completed this side of Christmas.

"We thank community groups for their understanding and look forward to testing and commissioning the building over the coming months ahead of the grand opening in early 2025," he said.
