Mildura Rural City Council's Rural Outreach Library Service resumes this month following a 12-month interruption due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The service will progressively return from this week, starting with the following locations and days:
Underbool (starting 6 April)
Tuesdays 11am - 1pm fortnightly
Underbool Linga Memorial Hall
Cullulleraine (starting 7 April)
Wednesdays 2:30pm – 4:30pm weekly
Walpeup Memorial Hall
Walpeup (starting 13 April)
Tuesdays 2:30pm – 4:30pm fortnightly
Millewa Resource Centre
Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Mark Eckel said return of the Rural Outreach Library Service was yet another step towards normality for residents in outlying areas.
"This is great news for residents along the Mallee Track and the Millewa who can once again enjoy the convenience of regular library service visits," Cr Eckel said.
He said residents in these areas would notice several changes to the previous schedule as part of the gradual return of the outreach service.
"In planning for the return of these services, our library services team took the opportunity to review how the outreach service was operating before COVID-19 to see if any improvements could be made," Cr Eckel said.
"An example is moving the Walpeup service from Thursdays to Tuesdays as a trial, which many residents told us was more convenient for them."
Residents along the Mallee Track and the Millewa are encouraged to check the Rural Outreach Service times and locations for any changes by visiting mildura.vic.gov.au/Explore/Libraries
Library members still have the option to request library items be posted out to them if the current days and times don't suit them. Members along the Mallee Track are also able to use both the Ouyen and Murrayville libraries.
The progressive return of Rural Outreach Library Services will be reviewed later this year based on community feedback and COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time.
