Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has issued a stark warning to the United States, stating that there could be "fatal consequences" if Washington allows Ukraine to use American weapons to strike targets inside Russia.
Ryabkov's comments follow U.S. President Joe Biden's decision last week to approve the use of these weapons against certain Russian targets involved in attacks on Ukraine's Kharkiv region.
“I would like to warn American leaders against miscalculations that could have fatal consequences. For unknown reasons, they underestimate the seriousness of the rebuff they may receive. The President of the Russian Federation has repeatedly spoken out on this topic,” Ryabkov told reporters.
“I urge these decision makers, who, as they say, don’t care about anything, to spend some of their time, which they apparently spend on some kind of video games, judging by the lightness of their approach, to spend some time studying what Putin said in detail, in in particular, at a press conference in Tashkent,”
Ryabkov referenced recent statements by President Vladimir Putin, who warned that NATO countries were "playing with fire" and risking a deeper global conflict.
Putin has stated that any use of Western weapons by Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia would implicate the West directly, as such attacks would require support in the form of satellite, intelligence, and military assistance.
