Congratulations to Associate Professor Amy Reynolds on being named this year's South Australia (SA) Young Tall Poppy.
The award recognises Associate Professor Reynolds' work on the experiences of shift workers living with sleep problems, many of which go undiagnosed and untreated for extended periods of time.
Associate Professor Reynolds was one of the academics showcased in the three-part SBS documentary 'Australia's Sleep Revolution,' which aired nationally earlier this year.
"My research shows that sleep disorder symptoms are often dismissed as a consequence of shift workers' work schedules rather than an independent issue - so diagnosis and treatment are delayed," says Associate Professor Reynolds.
"I am privileged to be the recipient this year, especially considering the outstanding research from the other 2024 Finalists. I hope that we will continue to spread the word that sleep disorders can be identified and managed early, and try to support healthier sleep in shift workers from the beginning of their careers."
Organised by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science, the Young Tall Poppy Awards were created to celebrate achievement in the sciences and communicating the passion and purpose of Australia's finest scientists to a wider audience.
In total, four Flinders University early and mid-career researchers were named in the SA Young Tall Poppy Science Awards for 2024.
