The Household Chemical Cleanout helps to safely dispose of some problem waste products.
15 October 2024
Bega Valley Shire residents will soon have the chance to safely dispose of household chemicals at upcoming CleanOut events in October.
The NSW Government's Household Chemical CleanOut program offers a free, convenient way to dispose of potentially hazardous items, with events in Eden, Pambula, Bega, and Bermagui.
Council's Waste Education Officer, Rebecca Bruce said people can bring household quantities of chemicals, including cleaners, paints, pesticides, motor oils, and more.
"Although for trade painters, the limit is higher," Ms Bruce said. "Through the Paintback initiative, tradies can drop off up to 100 litres of paint in containers no larger than 20 litres.
"To ensure safe transport of chemicals, keep them sealed and separate – never mix them. If any containers are damaged, make sure they are wrapped and securely transported."
"Many items such as paint and car batteries can be recycled, transforming a problem and potentially hazardous waste product into a valuable resource."
All items should be in their original containers, clearly labelled and securely sealed.
