Safer Crossings For Pedestrians In Pascoe Vale

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is keeping the Pascoe Vale community safe, with works beginning on a new pedestrian crossing and a range of road safety improvements along one of the area's busiest roads.

A pedestrian-operated signal crossing will be installed on Gaffney Street, between Ann Street and Wilna Street, to ensure school children and the local community can safely cross the road.

We're also improving safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the area by reducing the speed limit to 40km/h on Gaffney Street between Somerset Street and Heath Street.

A new 40km/h speed limit will also be introduced on Park Street, between Stewart Street and Somerset Street.

On Gaffney Street near the Pascoe Vale Station, a traffic island and improved line marking will make crossing the busy road easier for pedestrians, along with new bike shared lane markings and symbols to improve safety for vulnerable road users.

Crews will also widen the footpath on Gaffney Street near Heath Street to create more space for pedestrians travelling to and from the train station.

These works will commence this week and are anticipated to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.

During these works, Ann Street will be closed at Gaffney Street with detours in place, and lane closures will occur on Gaffney Street.

These important improvements are being funded by the Labor Government's Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne

"We've listened to the community and through their feedback, we're providing safer road infrastructure for the students and their families travelling to and from school, as well as the drivers, cyclists and pedestrians making their way to the train station."

As stated by Member for Pascoe Vale Anthony Cianflone

"This new pedestrian crossing and the raft of new road safety improvements being installed around this precinct will mean more of our local community can safely reach their destinations."
