Saint Kitts & Nevis Gifts Art to OAS Museum of Americas

The Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS) today donated the artwork "Mosaic – A Woman of Power in an Everyday World" by artist Vaughn Anslyn into the permanent art collection of the OAS Art Museum of the Americas, in a ceremony held at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Jacinth Henry-Martin, noted that the work by Anslyn is the first by an artist from her country to enter the permanent collection of the Museum. She called the work "a testament to our nation's artistic spirit and cultural identity," and "an enduring symbol of the depth and quality of our cultural heritage."

For his part, OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro thanked the Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis for the donation, which he called "a landmark moment for our institution amid the ongoing efforts of the Museum to promote the arts of the Caribbean at the OAS," and noted that it follows the donations of artwork from neighboring Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ansyln expressed his gratitude for the incorporation of the work into the collection of the Museum, and explained that "the piece that you see before you came from a deep rooted sense of urgency, and not only that, but a connection, a deep connection that I share with my mother." "And so this is my contribution and my dedication to my mother, and I'm eternally grateful that it ended up in a place like this on permanent display," he added.

The work by Vaughn Anslyn was selected by a juried process among more than a dozen entries that were received in response to a call for entries throughout the country. It will be exhibited at the Caribbean art gallery, organized and presented by the OAS Art Museum of the Americas, in the Delegates Lounge of the OAS Main Building.
