The annual South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) returns from 1 to 31 August, transforming the City of Adelaide into a vibrant hub of art and artists.
Over the next month, both traditional galleries and studios and unconventional spaces and places across the CBD and North Adelaide will be filled with creative exhibitions, displays and installations.
Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith said the City of Adelaide is a proud supporter of the SALA Festival and Adelaide's artistic and creative communities.
"Artists are the cornerstone of our city's rich cultural scene," said the Lord Mayor. "More than 10,000 artists were involved in last year's SALA, attracting more than a million visitors to exhibitions not just in the City of Adelaide but across South Australia.
"This year's SALA program reflects our creative diversity with more than 100 experiences throughout the city showcasing talents from across the spectrum including ceramics, sculpture, and even jewellery. I urge everyone to grab a program and explore our city to discover and support local artists."
SALA Emerging Curator Stavroula Adameitis (Frida Las Vegas) will revisit Adelaide's long-lost haunts in Memory Palace 5000 at the City Library which will be launched on 9 August at 6pm. Bookings are available here.
Arabana and Kokatha artist Mali Isabel will create new works in I'll Look For You In Every Lifetime in the City of Adelaide ART POD at the Colonel Light Centre on Pirie Street. Explore Assembly: Unveiling the City of Adelaide Contemporary Art Collection 2010 - 2024, an exhibition over three floors at the Adelaide Town Hall, with over 60 artworks by 40 artists. Adelaide artist George Linou captures the heart, soul and history of Adelaide's heritage buildings in Reflecting the Past in the Present Day, on show at the Minor Works Building Community Centre.
North Adelaide Community Centre features dual exhibitions, Embracing Fluidity by Narungga artist Tanaya Antony and Flock by Simone Ridge-Cook, while Unity Housing Company tenants and staff showcase their diverse talents and creativity at the Hutt Street Library.
The yearly City of Adelaide Award recognises an artist whose work connects to Adelaide. Finalists for 2024 are embroidery artist Cheryl Bridgart with Fly Me To the Moon, OAKEY with their PLEXUS travelling sculpture and Alyssa Powell-Ascura with Halo-Halo, her exploration of her Filipino heritage through an international Residency in Malaysia - on show at The Mill.
The third iteration of Melbourne Street Open Air Gallery- Art Trail will host 10 artists' photographic and digital artworks displayed on more than 20 Melbourne Street businesses. Supported by City of Adelaide, Adelaide College of Arts Visual Art students present a range of tiny artwork at Tiny ArtWorks by Adelaide College of the Arts, TAFE SA - SALA Festival 2024,
