Saltwater Creek Flood Resilience Project Launched

A significant flood mitigation project, which will protect more than 90 Edge Hill homes from seasonal flooding, will get underway later this month.

The Saltwater Creek Flood resilience project involves a major stormwater bypass, using 590m of pipe to divert storm water from Hutchinson Street to Vessey Park, and increasing the size of the Hutchinson Street stormwater inlet to reduce the risk of blockages.

It is part of a $2.8 million package of works that has involved Traditional Owners and JCU academics to gain a greater understanding of the entire Saltwater Creek catchment to improve community understanding of water quality, flooding risks and environmentally sound mitigation options.

Ninety-four properties in the Iona Close area, between Hutchinson Street and Lomon Close, will directly benefit from the project which will be completed by July 2025.
