Sam Reinhardt Named Parliamentary Budget Officer

The Presiding Officers are pleased to announce that Ms Sam Reinhardt has been appointed as the Parliamentary Budget Officer.

Ms Reinhardt was identified through a merit-based selection process led by the Parliamentary Services Commissioner and has been appointed with the unanimous approval of the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit.

Ms Reinhardt is currently Deputy Secretary, Fiscal Group at The Treasury. She is an accomplished economist and leader who will bring budget and policy costing expertise to the role from her time at Treasury, the Productivity Commission and the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. She has served as the government representative on the Foreign Investment Review Board and was a member of the secretariat for the Henry Tax Review.

Ms Reinhardt will also bring broader insights to the role from her experience at the Cape York Institute, the Papua New Guinean Treasury and as a Tax and Fiscal Policy Adviser to former Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Senate President, Senator the Hon Sue Lines, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Hon Milton Dick MP, congratulated Ms Reinhardt on her appointment and again thanked Dr Stein Helgeby for his leadership of the Parliamentary Budget Office over the past four years.

Ms Reinhardt's four year appointment will begin on 18 November 2024.
