On October 8, Administrator Samantha Power met with Canada's Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen. They discussed support from the United States, Canada, and other countries for the Pandemic Fund, which finances pandemic prevention and preparedness. The Fund plays a critical role in addressing global health security, including efforts to end the ongoing mpox outbreak. Administrator Power thanked Minister Hussen for Canada's leadership on the Pandemic Fund Board and noted the strong commitment from the Biden-Harris Administration to enable the Fund to continue its critical, life-saving work.
Administrator Power and Minister Hussen also discussed regional migration challenges, and Administrator Power noted Canada's call to action for the international community to support the Haiti Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission during the UN General Assembly. She thanked Minister Hussen for Canada's role as a founding member of the newly-launched Partnership for a Lead-Free Future and for signing on to the Joint Commitment on Supporting Democratic Openings.
