On March 21, Administrator Samantha Power met with Ambassador Miriam Sapiro, the newly-appointed CEO and President of InterAction. Administrator Power applauded the Ambassador's vision for the organization and the critical role InterAction plays in the development community.
Administrator Power and Ambassador Sapiro discussed the need to work together on locally led development, noting that it contributes to aid effectiveness and more sustainable development outcomes. The Administrator noted USAID's commitment to continue to shift power to the people and institutions who are best-placed to drive change in their own communities, and the two discussed further opportunities for collaboration between USAID and InterAction to empower local actors.
The Administrator discussed the importance of creating sustainable pathways for humanitarian assistance in a world where needs continue to grow, and the importance of building partnerships and driving toward impacts that go beyond the scope of our programs.
Finally, the Administrator also shared details on the President's FY24 Budget Request and the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to provide funding to respond to complex emergencies, invest in lasting food security, address rising inequality, and promote equitable economic growth and inclusive development.
