The City of Hobart is proud to support once again one of the world's longest-running regattas, the Sandy Bay Regatta, as it celebrates its 177th year of maritime tradition and community spirit this Saturday.
Originating from working seafarers testing their skills against their mates, the regatta continues to honour its heritage through a thrilling program of sailing and rowing events.
A major highlight will be the junior and coastal rowing competitions, presented in partnership with Tas Rowing.
This initiative aims to provide more opportunities for students from state schools to participate in rowing, a sport traditionally dominated by private schools.
The regatta will offer a packed schedule of on-water and on-land entertainment from 8am to 4pm, ensuring a fantastic day out for the whole community.
Patrons can enjoy exhibition races, 'come and try' water activities, including stand-up paddleboarding and Nipper demonstrations, and the ever-popular ocean swim races.
On land, there will be live music, roving entertainers, Blundstone boot throwing, pie-eating competitions, 'crazy bikes', and more.
Adding to the day's significance, the City of Hobart Citizenship Ceremony will take place at 10:30am, where 79 people from 28 different countries will officially become Australian citizens.
The City of Hobart has long supported the Sandy Bay Regatta through its City Partnerships program, recognising its contribution to community engagement, sport, and recreation.
Patrons are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, soak up the vibrant atmosphere, and enjoy the fantastic food and entertainment throughout the day.
