South Australia Police's Mobile Workforce Program will increase its ability to assist the community through technology enabled policing.
Executive Director Information Systems and Technology Service, Hamish Cameron said it is vital our police officers are equipped with the latest technology when responding to incidents so they can have access to accurate and relevant information to inform their decisions and keep them safe.
"The first phase of the project will see 300 frontline police officers issued mobile phones featuring specialised SAPOL applications for use on the front line" Mr Cameron said.
"We are really excited about this technology as it will reduce the need for officers to return to the station to complete their duties, allowing officers to spend more time policing the streets and support and enable our vision of safer communities."
Minister for Police Joe Szakacs said the new technology will mean police can respond to emergencies with a greater capacity.
"This technology will mean South Australia Police can more effectively respond to an emergency," Minister Szakacs said.
"Police will be able to place valuable resources wherever they are needed most, as well as make faster and more accurate decisions in critical moments."
Mr Cameron said this solution will meet the expectations of our current and future workforce, including in regional and remote areas.
"Members of the public may notice that some of our police officers are using a mobile phone more often. The phone is now a key component of their operational equipment."
This is the start of a broader rollout with features progressively deployed, improving the accessibility and efficiency of our frontline workforce.
