SA's Animal Lovers Blitz RSPCA Fundraising Target

One day campaign raises much needed funds ahead of busy summer months

South Australia's animal loving community has rallied behind RSPCA, donating $226,904 yesterday in the organisation's one-day Give to Get Them Home campaign.

This amount was matched by generous major donors and corporate sponsors, bringing the total fundraising result to over $450,000.

Nationally, the RSPCA's single biggest fundraising day of the year raised $3.2m to help animals in need. Every RSPCA hit their state and territory goal except Queensland, which was $40K short of its $700K fundraising target.

In South Australia, 4,470 donors took advantage of the 24-hour window to double their donation.

RSPCA South Australia CEO Marcus Gehrig said the result was the best achieved since the annual Give to Get Them Home campaign was first held in this state in 2019.

"At a time when many people are coping with cost-of-living pressures, it's incredibly heart-warming to know just how much our community supports what we do for animals," Marcus said.

"On behalf of our staff, our volunteers and the thousands of animals that come into our care each year, I want to thank every one of our donors for their kindness and generosity."

More than 2500 animals are expected to come into RSPCA SA's care over the next three months, in what is traditionally the organisation's busiest time of year.

RSPCA's nationwide Give to Get Them Home campaign is timed to help cover the veterinary, rehabilitation and general care costs for animals during the summer months so they can recover and be rehomed.

Donations can still be made online or via phone on 1300 777 221.
