During the autumn, Ecosystems and Environment Research Programme will provide a series of five online seminars in which experts from the fields of research, policy and business will dive deeper into questions related to nature loss from different perspectives. These seminars are open to all interested.
The loss of biodiversity has been on the agenda of international meetings organized by the United Nations for thirty years. For the first time, world leaders committed themselves to preserving the diversity of organisms and habitats at the 1992 Conference on Environment and Development in Rio De Janeiro. Since then, there have been many biodiversity conferences. Targets have been set, but they have not been achieved. Now the aim is to halt the loss of nature by 2030.
Last February, a report by the experienced economist Partha Dasgupta entitled 'The Economics of Biodiversity' attracted a great deal of attention. The report states that the economy cannot operate separately from nature.
Biodiversity is dwindling. What can be done? Why do we need science-based solutions? Does interdisciplinary research be needed to halt the loss of nature? How do companies take nature capital into account? Will the EU taxonomy stop the loss of nature?
A series of five seminars will dive deeper into these questions related to nature loss from different perspectives.
The events will take place virtually in Zoom, organized by the Ecosystems and Environment Research Programme, chaired by Hannele Pokka, Professor of Practice in Environmental Responsibility. The events are open for all interested.

Credits for students
For ECGS-students, there is a possibility to get credits for course ECGS-026 Portfolio for the future by attending the series of events. By attending at least three seminars altogether (in Spring-Autumn) and writing a 3-page report, you can gain one credit. By attending at least four seminars and writing a 6-page report, 2 credits can be gained. Also DENVI students can gain credits by attending the seminars.
