Mitchell Shire Council, in partnership with other regional councils, is providing an easier path for residents and businesses to energy saving upgrades with the launch of the Goulburn Murray Solar Savers Program.
The Shires of Alpine, Indigo, Mitchell, Murrindindi, Strathbogie and Greater Shepparton City Council, all members of the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance, have come together to deliver this program. The program will assist residents and businesses who find the options and pitfalls overwhelming when considering upgrading to solar, storage batteries, a quality system for hot water, or reverse cycle heating and cooling.
The Goulburn Murray Solar Savers offers a range of vetted installers and products, including solar panels, storage batteries, reverse cycle heating and cooling, and quality hot water systems. Comprehensive information about available rebates is also provided to ensure customers get the best value. Random audits on installations, will also be undertaken giving peace of mind to customers that service and safety are a priority.
Speaking at the launch event at Alexandra Shire Hall, Mitchell Shire Councillor Claudia James highlighted the program's benefits: "Our residents and businesses now have the opportunity to upgrade their homes or workplaces with energy-efficient technologies that will help them save on energy bills for years to come while also contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions."
The program is set to expand its offerings soon to include induction cooktops, home and business electric vehicle chargers, insulation, draft proofing, and home energy scorecard assessments. This expansion will create opportunities for local providers to join the program, fostering regional economic growth and capacity building.
The Goulburn Murray Solar Savers Program is a regional adaptation of the successful metropolitan Solar Savers model, which has been assisting residents in 19 councils for several years.
