NSW Nationals

A teacher at Coffs Harbour's Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School has been awarded a prestigious Aboriginal Languages Education Scholarship.

Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour, Gurmesh Singh, has congratulated language teacher Blake Cusack on her outstanding achievement.

"This important scholarship program aims to contribute to the growth of Aboriginal languages by supporting recipients just like Blake to pursue languages training and education," Mr Singh said.

"Blake is an integral part of the team at Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School which is leading the way in revitalising Aboriginal languages in our community.

"The school is revolutionising education for Gumbaynggirr people and First Nations communities.

"Languages are central to indigenous culture and are vital to sustaining traditional knowledge. I applaud Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School for the dynamic contribution it is making to strengthening and growing Aboriginal languages and culture."

Aboriginal organisations and groups can apply for grants to hold events and activities celebrating NSW Aboriginal Languages Week 2024 (20-27 October).
