An animated science fiction film about a robot named Roz, who finds herself on an island rich with wildlife, will screen next Wednesday evening (2 October) at Wallis Cinemas in Mitcham, with part proceeds from ticket sales going to support animals in RSPCA South Australia's care.
The heartwarming film is based on the popular book series of the same name by Peter Brown, and its star-studded ensemble voice cast includes Bill Nighy, Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, Kit Connor and Mark Hamill.
RSPCA SA spokesperson Carolyn Jones described the film as a "solid match" for the charity's values
"Empathy, kindness and courage are attributes that are embedded in our rescue, care and rehoming of animals, and they are also embedded in this story about valuing diversity and protecting wild animals and their habitats," Carolyn said.
"With its well-developed plot, incredible animation and powerful music score, it's unsurprising that the film's attracted glowing reviews since its release this month.
"It's well worth seeing on the big screen, and anyone who comes along to this special screening next Wednesday has the added bonus of knowing that they're contributing to the care of some of our state's most vulnerable animals."
RSPCA SA currently has more than 550 animals in care, with 240 (44%) being housed at its main animal care centre at O'Halloran Hill. The remaining animals are either in foster care, on trial adoptions or at the organisation's Whyalla shelter.
