Minister for Education Grace Grace and Member for Lytton Joan Pease have visited Wynnum State High School today, inspecting construction of a $3.46 million learning centre which is due to be ready for the start of the 2019 school year.
Ms Grace, in the Redlands Coast region for a Palaszczuk cabinet meeting, said the two-storey building was starting to take shape, with roofing finished and external cladding underway on level 1.
"The project has been made possible under the Palaszczuk Government’s 2020 Ready program and will include four general learning areas, resource and data rooms and an under-croft area for future proofing," Ms Grace said.
"The project will also see the conversion of a general learning area into a dance studio in I Block."
Ms Pease said the school community was eagerly awaiting the completion of the learning centre.
"The teachers and students can’t wait to make use of these extra classrooms which I’m sure will serve them well into the future," Ms Pease said.
"This project is also contributing to the local economy, supporting nine jobs."
The Palaszczuk Government is investing millions of dollars into the Redlands Coast region, with a number of infrastructure projects already underway.
A $4.6 million two-storey learning centre is also being built at Alexandra Hills State High School as part of the 2020 Ready Program.
Member for Capalaba Don Brown said the project is on track.
"The centre will include three general learning areas, a design studio and dance studio," Mr Brown said.
"The contract is expected to be awarded in January next year, with doors to the centre forecast to open at the end of August.
"It’s also worth noting that this project will support up to 13 jobs during construction, which is terrific for our local economy."
The Palaszczuk Government is also delivering on a $100,000 election commitment to Mt Cotton State School in the Springwood electorate, with the installation of shade sails to be completed by the end of 2018.
At Russell Island State School, $1.2 million is being spent on the refurbishment of six buildings.
Member for the Redlands Kim Richards said the school welcomed the project.
"This important project will spruce up some of the school’s classrooms, with a completion time expected in late January 2019," Ms Richards said.
Two projects are also underway at Cleveland District State High School.
A $6.6 million multi-purpose hall was completed in October, while a refurbishment of the Manual Arts block is scheduled for completion in late January 2019.
A $9.2 million three-storey secondary learning centre is being constructed as part of the 2020 Ready Program. It will include 14 general learning areas, four specialist areas, a dance studio and robotics laboratory.
The project is set to be completed in late August 2019.
Refurbishment projects at Dunwich and Redland Bay State Schools are also on track, including extensions to classroom blocks.
"We’re only scraping the surface in announcing works happening around this region, with smaller projects under the $1 million mark also underway," Ms Grace said.
"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to providing world-class facilities in our schools, no matter the scale of the project.
"I’m proud to be part of a Government that is delivering for our students who are the leaders of tomorrow."
