Scissors Assault: Man Charged in Woolloomooloo

A man has been charged following an alleged assault with a pair of scissors in the inner city on Wednesday.

About 3:30pm (Wednesday 27 November 2024), emergency services were called to William Street, Woolloomooloo, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command were told three people had been assaulted, each suffering bleeding and bruising.

Police were told the man had also allegedly damaged multiple parked cars on Crown Street.

Police found the man nearby allegedly armed with a pair of scissors.

A Taser was used to effect the arrest of a 34 -year-old man.

The scissors were seized by police.

The man was taken to hospital under police guard.

Following his release from hospital, the 34-year-old man was taken to Kings Cross Police Station and charged with 14 offences – assault occasioning actual bodily harm (two counts), trespassing, destroy property (four counts), shoplifting, custody of a knife in a public place, assault, armed with intent to commit an indicatable offence, intimidate police officer in execution of duty (two counts) and threaten injury to person with intent to prevent lawful detention.

The man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court yesterday (Thursday 28 November 2024), where bail was formally refused, to re-appear before the same Court today (Friday 29 November 2024).
