Scooter Robbery Arrest, Sexual Assault Suspect Sought

Charges in Scooter Robberies

Steven Marquize Simon, 28, was arrested by University of Houston Police Department on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and has been charged with felony robbery in connection to the scooter theft that occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Metro platform near the Welcome Center Garage. Following further investigation, UHPD also connected Simon to the Wednesday, Feb. 5, robbery and assault at the Welcome Center Garage. He was charged today with felony robbery in the second scooter theft and remains in custody.

Cell Phone Robbery Update

UHPD investigators continue to aggressively pursue leads in the unresolved case involving the robbery of a cell phone at a campus bus stop last week. Swift action is a priority, and we hope to provide an update soon.

Pursuit of Sexual Assault Suspect

Law enforcement continues to actively pursue Eric Brown, the suspect charged in the recent sexual assault case. The University of Houston and the Harris County District Attorney's Office are working together with a shared focus on apprehending Eric Brown to bring him to justice for this heinous crime.

Campus Safety Measures and Immediate Actions

We remain committed to taking swift action to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff:

  1. Increased Police Presence: UHPD has more than doubled the number of security personnel in a very short period. Plans are underway to further expand the police force, with additional details to be announced soon.
  2. Enhanced Security Monitoring: New security staff are patrolling campus grounds and buildings 24/7, with a particular focus on parking lots and high-traffic areas. These personnel are accessible to provide immediate support when needed.
  3. Ongoing Investigations, Improved Coordination: We best serve and protect our communities by holding offenders accountable, ensuring that all crimes are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are committed to continuing to strengthen our coordination with the Harris County District Attorney's Office and other local law enforcement agencies to enhance our collective response to criminal activity on our campus.
