Scope of CainsPlan 2016 amendments finalised

The scope of the final major amendment to the CairnsPlan 2016 have been confirmed as Council shifts its focus towards the preparation of the Cairns 2050 Growth Strategy and the related new planning scheme.

Adopted by Council on 24 February 2016 and commenced on 1 March 2016, the CairnsPlan 2016 provides the framework by which proposed development in the region is assessed.

As the plan that guides future development and sustainable growth of Cairns, regular amendments are required to ensure the CairnsPlan 2016 remains a contemporary planning scheme that addresses industry and community feedback, responds to emerging development trends, reflects planning decisions, rectifies workability issues and responds to legislative changes.

A number of topics are included in the proposed scope of the amendments, including review of subdivision requirements across Cairns, review the home-based business requirements, and a review of vegetation management and landscaping requirements.

The detail and full extent of the amendments associated with each topic has yet to be determined.
