Western Downs Regional Council is inviting community members to take a break and gather together for a night of positive community conversations, as footy legend Nick Cummins and Outback Futures tackle the importance of looking out for each other during challenging times.
Banter with the Badger will be making its way to the Condamine Bell Hotel and Tara Commercial Hotel for two free light-hearted evenings at the pub this February.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the event was an opportunity to hear from the rurally focussed support network Outback Futures, have a chat with the 'Honey Badger', as well as lift our spirits after what has been, for many, a challenging 12 months.
"Our rural towns are truly the heart of our active, vibrant Western Downs community and these events are exactly what we need to bolster and reinforce the wonderful community resilience and unity we share," Cr McVeigh said.
"In the Western Downs we know that 'it's the people that make it'. Whenever there is hardship, we come together to support each other. Good things happen when we unite, and as a community we always make sure that nobody is left to face challenges alone.
"We all face challenges in life, often leaving us to feel like we are fumbling the ball. When we're overwhelmed or struggling, seeking support through conversation can be beneficial, which is what Council hopes to encourage through this special event."
Banter with the Badger will bring together representatives from local services eager to foster connections with community members, Outback Futures, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing community resilience and individual well-being in the outback, as well as an informal and humorous conversation with Footy Legend Nick Cummins, who will share his stories and insights on the importance of prioritising our mental health
Council encourages residents head along, bring your mates, pull up a chair and take a breather.
