Scoring Goals For Queanbeyan City's Football Future

Queanbeyan's oldest football club is set to score the goal of getting a new home thanks to $1.9 million in funding from the Minns Labor Government.

The funding for this election commitment will allow Queanbeyan City Football Club to design and build a new club house in High Street, which will support male and female players of all ages by offering a modern space for training, matches and social gatherings.

The NSW Government is focused on ensuring regional communities can access and utilise modern and quality facilities to ensure people get the best opportunity to enjoy their lifestyles.

Until now the club has been housed in a demountable building which doesn't have enough space for its growing membership base.

The new facility will offer extra space for the club and will also be used for education and health programs, cultural events, and will be made available to schools, charities and other organisations for their own functions.

Queanbeyan City Football Club was founded in 1966 by the local Macedonian community and is still going strong more than fifty years later.

Originally named 'Queanbeyan Makedonia' the club is one of the oldest in the Canberra area and boasts a proud tradition of nurturing sporting talent in the MiniRoos, Boys and Girls Juniors, and Mens and Womens Seniors competitions.

The Club changed its name to Queanbeyan City Football Club in the 1990's and this year achieved its long-held goal of being promoted to the National Premier League.

In September this year, the club's First Grade Men's team were crowned Capital Premier League champions after beating the Brindabella Blues 2 - 0 in the grand final at Riverside Oval.

Designs for the new club house are underway.
