New Scottish GDP figures published for September 2024
The latest Scottish GDP figures have been published this morning for the month of September and for the third quarter of 2024 (July-September).
Scottish Secretary Ian Murray said:
"Growth is our number one mission and while we've continued to provide stability and take steps to fix the foundations, there's a lot more we can do to ensure families feel the benefits of that growth sooner.
"Our Get Britain Working strategy launched yesterday will benefit people right across the UK through Jobcentre reform and the biggest overhaul of workers' rights in a generation is ending exploitative zero-hours contracts and rewarding hard work with a true living wage. Investment remains key, that's why the UK government is investing £1.4 billion in growth projects over the next ten years, and established GB Energy which will be backed by £8.3 billion of investment.
"This is alongside the biggest budget settlement for the Scottish Government in the history of devolution.
"We're dealing with the impact of 14 years of economic mismanagement, but by focussing on growth and working in partnership with business, we are unlocking massive potential to benefit people in all parts of the UK."
Background:
Scotland's onshore GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.3% in September, following a contraction of 0.6% in August.
Scotland's GDP grew by 0.3% in real terms during the third quarter of 2024 (July to September), after growing 0.4% in the previous quarter (April to June). In the third quarter, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 0.1% after growing 0.5% in the previous quarter.
Compared to the same quarter last year, Scotland's GDP grew by 0.9%. Over the same period, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 1.0%
